The whole prostitute thing comes from a single line in the second volume where Revy states that she won't work for Rowan, even if that job that "involved whipping". Hiroe has also drawn her a few times in a dominatrix outfit, but that's because it's his fetish. Seriously, it's basically all he draws in his doujins. Anyway, the anime adaptation changes the line to remove the bondage reference and have Revy state clearly she would never work for Rowan.
