>>2197141I can't answer for him, but isn't hate a natural reaction to something like Rei Q (or Q in general for Rei)?
Here we are, fans of Rei, all in knowledge of how good Rei is and potentially could be in Rebuild if they only just try - then Rei Q is introduced along with the killing of Rei as a character.
It's not just Rei Q, but Rei Q is part of it - being a particularly undeveloped and outright negatively portrayed version of the original Rei, a perversion of the character if you will.
A character that is a deliberate downgrade in quality and meaning, for what purpose? So that we can take ten steps back, just to make one step forward? That pace will never lead you anywhere. It's a free fall into nothing.
I see many being fans of Rei because there is something in the character they admire, the combination of all of Rei's quirks. There is something there to admire - in Rei Q, there is nothing to admire, think about, or even learn from. Only Rei's design seems to remain, and Rei already did that better. It's just superficial stuff - the moe of a vulnerable clone girl. That's it.
I guess my point is that Rei Q is a mockery of Rei. It's a Rei Ayanami that has been castrated, turned into a demeaning reimagination and rewriting of the original without any purpose than to be a explicitly worse, and a massive disappointment to those who know the original. It's the original creators vandalizing their own work. There's nothing beautiful in this, there's nothing to admire - but there is a lot to have hatred and contempt for.
