Asuka's personality is she's an Eva pilot, the best Eva pilot. When this is threatened she's crushed to point of catatonia. This is obvious to even the casual viewer, but for the sake of winning internet arguments it's safer to ignore that and hide behind an ambiguous position where you can have it both ways.
