Drawn characters are drawn to be idealistic, comparing yourself to one is redundant. If you looked like something else, you wouldn't be whoever you are now would you?
This is one of the themes touched on by Anno with Asuka. She may wish she were Rei, or Misato, or Hikari, more beautiful (at least to Shinji), more mature, more composed, but that is not her. She is who she is. it's when she realizes this and becomes sure of herself that her full potential comes forth.
