Rei is in between boredom, apathy, or pain in NGE, in manga she syffer more than in NGE but also is really happy in some moments.

By the end of the day manga gave a bonus to Rei and NGE without taking away anithing.
What didn't happen in manga (like any Asuka's development or Rei 3) wasn't thrown away, it just already happened in TV, no need to duplicate main content in the bonus content.
Manga is NGE's DLC.
Unfortunately no bonus for Rei 3, and the ending was just a subpar EOE retelling.

But we still got a good bonus to Rei 2, Kaji, many Eva's points and Eva's story.Manga was a GOOD thing to happen to Eva, not a bad one like Rebuild.
