As characters their personalities and positions were chosen first with an emphasis on making them "loud and exciting", things like gender and appearance came after the script's first draft had been completed and submitted for review.
So instead of starting with empty female bodies filled along stereotypical lines for an action/comedy series (like token check boxes for things like the ice cold kuudere, the hot headed tsundere, the spunky best friend, etc). They fall into archetypes but they are first and foremost fleshed out characters that just so happened to be female to differentiate KLK from TTGL, at least so they said in interviews.
