Independent and capable of taking care of herself and others, but on an emotional level I don't think she'd be truly happy without him. If they have some ulterior point to make then it can stay that way I guess.

Don't shoot me but I used to not care all that much about Rin for the longest time. Watching the anime up to and including UBW, I had takes such as Tsundere = Rin and Rin = Zettai Ryouiki. In other words I've been there on the outside looking in. I guess my priorities changed at some point considering how hard the VNs hit. Some of these people are probably stuck at that phase until they too find enlightenment.

The problem with these side stories is when they just insert her in as a comedy role or something because she's recognizable and then the guest writer of the day a) isn't capable of writing her or b) isn't allowed to write her. This is where 4107913's point stands and I kinda loathe it, especially when she gets paired with Luvia.
