To bring it back to Rei, she might be smart enough to read German Genetics textbooks. But that's an interest of hers since she's trying to understand her own nature & speaking the language of the organizations you work for is pretty practical. But I don't imagine her giving much of a fuck about writing a 2 page essay about one of the many lectures of what their professor was doing before 2nd impact when she's got other stuff to figure out in between her official Nerv duties and her unofficial Seele ones.
But Asuka did call her honor student, so I admit that alone fucks over my scenario. Rei must be a busier girl than we ever get to see.
