Completely agree with the generals part. Even moot said he didn't like generals and felt that they went against the concept of 4chan too. I definitely use 4chan differently than I used to when I first came here, i.e. refreshing threads until they hit the bump limit and opening the next version instead of browsing the board for new threads. It leaves an emptier feeling and feels more structured and scheduled instead of being new, open, and free.
Doge is probably still rampant on some of the popular boards, but I really haven't seen him in a long time.
