It's been described as being not pleasant for her and she's gone so far as to say words to the effect of "there's no joy in living" in the throes of one of her worst depressions, which was brought on in the first place by her remembering bad things from her past. I both love and hate that sequence because it hurts me to see her in so much pain, but it also affected how I looked at her as a character and catalyzed my deeper feelings for her. And she looks so beautiful in some panels, especially since it's basically the only time you ever get to see her with clear eyes and no drool. Pic very related.
