Humans are social creatures. Even for those who lack communication skills or dislike communication with others, we are still, as a species, social. I don't care for much for others. I don't need a wide social network, but being human, I still have that inherit need for some sort of 'others'. And while I have a few good friendships, there's a part of me that longs for a closeness.
People like certain traits in a companion, and different kinds of traits in different companions. I don't think I could realistically find a physical person who would fit with me in such a close relationship. I like so few people. I'm so unlikable and erratic. Even if it happened, I can't stand prolonged contact. But, theoretically, a person with those traits I like could exist. What if I gave unrequited love to a concept with those traits?
