>>4260379I do think they sorta resolved some of what Misato was feeling in 3.0 in Thrice at least given how that movie basically hits you over the head with the theme of guilt and baggage, especially with Misato's moment with the picture of her son and Shinji together, where she realizes that she was basically projecting all of her issues and problems onto who was still basically her kid, and one that couldn't have known the ramifications of what he'd cause trying to save Rei. They even have a moment of reconciliation after she gets shot by Toji's sister. For me at least, the characters motives being vague and contradictory kinda works in 3.0 if you look at it from the same lens as say the last stretch of episodes in the original series, especially after Kaji dies, and when Rei II dies Misato quite literally offers to fuck a 14 year old to rid him of his pain over the death of his friend, among other behavioral oddities (arguably the worst is the EoE kiss which also makes no sense)
