When her mother went insane Asuka was ready to die along with her as long as she got her love instead of the doll, became a pilot trying to impress her, when she died she kept at it because it's what kept others' attention towards her. Was willing to fuck Kaji so she could believe he loved her, etc... There's one eva girl with a doll motive and it sure as hell isn't Rei.
But Rei gets called that once when Asuka is projecting the hell out and it sticks.
