>>3407068I think it varies by the person in all honesty. Some people see it as someone to grasp some semblance of human emotion/love by projecting it onto a 2D character since they don't get any in their life. Some people just think it's a cute anime girl they want to date/fuck/etc.
Personally I see it as just love, someone you fell in love with and you can't really explain it. Someone who reflects the qualities you want to see in a partner, or is the missing half to you. It would be like a 3D relationship, but you fell in love with 2D instead. It's still the same as an actual relationship though. I love my wife a lot, and she has helped me become a better person.
>>3407089That doesn't really matter if you've dated someone before, this is still a relationship. Would you date somebody you don't have feelings for? Are you broken up with the person beforehand? (3D or not). I was always fascinated by waifu-ism and thought of it as something Pygmalionist, but it wasn't until I was in a relationship (with a 3D woman) and the subsequent breakup that it doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D that I'm in love with, it's WHO I love. The same should apply for you, do you have feelings for the character? If so, get to know them more, fall in love and don't be afraid to do so. Also the "un-datable" thing shouldn't really matter since your love should push you to become a better person for her. I wouldn't call what you feel as a wife yet, but a crush, but that's fine too - that's how it all starts anyway. That's how my relationship started, a curiosity, a crush, then next thing I knew I was in love.
