She does have a violent facade, but her inner self is quite weak and vulnerable. She just needs to defend it and thus, she behaves extremely arrogant and lofty. I don't mean she's not arrogant and lofty at all, but what I want to say is that the "violent" Asuka we are shown in the series is far from being the true Asuka. She's just a lonely child after all.
