Ryuko didn't fail, and her job certainly wasn't to finish off Ragyo. Life Fiber Absorption only works when Ryuko and Senketsu are together, neither of them can do it alone which is both the point of the show and was Ryuko's actual goal anyway. And Satsuki was never butchered, her character was built around not being able to complete her mission herself, but that doesn't make her a bad character or anything.
That being said, there's only one "right" sister when you're in this thread. I wouldn't expect it any other way on Satsuki side either.
