If there is an Orthodox figure/figures that Rei is based on. Who is She? And if there is "One" that She's based on. Perhaps: "Lilith" that I did hear you refer to not exactly "Demon Mother", but rather the mother figure in Gnostic mythology. Why use the name Lilith? Why use something so devilish when representing something so "holy" to many? You speak of Anno as some fallen prophet. Who is Anno? A businessman that used religion in entertainment.
and most of all if there is that "One" that Rei is simply an avatar for in Evangelion. What meaning does Rei have when she's just a mask for that "Entity". It's as if we prefer the mask rather than the wearer. Does that make sense?
