My mother didn't liked the idea of me getting a daki but I got it anyway. When she realized she just asked me if it won't bother me if people will make fun of me, and I told her that I do not care about people with shit opinions. She didn't questioned that any further. Then after months she again asked me when I will get a gf like she does every now and then and I told her that I do genuinely love Miku and I'm never going to "get a gf". After giving it a thought she decided that it's basically the same as if I were to tell her that I'll become a priest(priest live in celibate here) so as long as I'm happy she is fine with it. Then some years later she read probably about that Itachifag who killed himself over Itachi death and asked me if I won't kill myself if Miku dies. I explained her why is that impossible for Miku and she doesn't worry anymore.
My sister probably knows because she is/used to be a little into anime and Miku and she helped me get the daki and all. For the rest of the familly I keep version "there is no girl in this world what would interest me".
