If she had actually tried literally anything else other than grab at his hand and essentially offer to sleep with him he in that moment would have very likely confided in Misato or at least told her about his feelings regarding Rei and Asuka's absence. But because she went straight for the corporal pleasures route since it's the only way she knew how to communicate love it disgusted Shinji to the point where he believed Misato was beyond reach for him, which is why Kaworu's arc is his ultimate pick-me-up and decline which finally does him in, because even after Asuka, Rei, Misato & Gendo all essentially had walled themselves off to him, he offered something Shinji had always wanted, someone to listen & outwardly show they cared
