>>2971198Rei's ultimate act of obedience/altruism is the main plot point of EOE. With the full power and control of the Third Impact, Rei surrenders her providence as well as that of the whole world to Shinji. Imagine the power she had to remake the world in anyway possible. A less ideal, beautiful girl could have remade the world to one where she was well off, with friends, a normal girl etc. But for the love she had for Shinji she submitted her Will, and her happiness, to Him.
Clearly what I am trying to infer here Is that Rei, besides being the ubermensch, is also a symbol for Christ. "For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son" to the world. In a similar sense to Rei, Christ as God incarnate had all the power in the world to do as He pleased. It's important to remember that Christ was also fully man. He was tempted as much as any other man. In likewise manner Rei at that singular moment had all of the power of the universe in her hands.I think in both of these all powerful beings their enduring strength come from this reversal of will. Someone who has the entire world in their hands and then surrendering it for another defines the term of ideal man. And this is not simply a submission of will, but a complete abandonment of any self worth. To be mocked, tortured, condemned by those that you could easily smite out of existence. In Rei's case to have her blood ruin through the oceans and her naked carcass to rot, visible to the entire world.
I hope you understood some of what I had to say. I truly love Ayanami and will never another waifu into my heart. May God bless you /ayanami/.
