the less plausible one is in the way mitakihara seems to be built. around the utopian, pristine city there's a ring of dilapidated buildings. buddha stepping out of his palace and all that.
the one i see referenced a lot more is the connection between how sayaka reacts to learning about the separation of her soul from her body. for buddhists, the soul is of utmost importance, so to rip it out of the body is... not very pleasant.
