The irony is that seeing Homura alone and suffering is something Madoka can't bear. Or in other words, seeing Homura suffer is suffering for Madoka. Homura's transformation is largely inspired by Madoka herself being unable to ignore Homura's feelings.
Regardless, this isn't important now. What is important is that the girls have some casual time together. That means they might actually wear something other than their school uniform!
