To me, hating these characters for their nurtured traits is missing the point, as the show makes an effort to give us insight on how they come to be. Hating Rei for being seemingly emotionless or Asuka for her pride is shallow. I guess it's possible some people see themselves responding differently to the struggle these characters experience. Maybe their hate is directed towards the serious fans of these characters, I've noticed a lot of hostility towards waifuism on the internet. People are generally quick to become hostile towards something, even if they don't fully understand it. That won't change no matter what we do or think.
