They aren't out to just make more money here, because if they were you know Rei Q wouldn't be there in the first place. It's about more than money, it's about making things comfortable for themselves as fans of their own work. There's noone on Khara's writing team that would like to see Rei be interesting, since they themselves have no interest in the character and the side-effect of making Rei interesting is making their own favourites less interesting.
Rei Q is part of a canon rewriting that's there to make Rei as a character less interesting. If they're losing money, it's something they were aware that that would happen, and they're making it back by selling other stuff. It's intentional.
They aren't going to "rectify" anything in the future, and even if they try, they cannot succeed because the problem is something that just won't go away. The damage is already done in 3.0, and they have to resort to retcons.
