For someone with low self esteem he really doesn't care if it's something he wants to do. Personally I think he has great confidence in his dancing and the attitude his sister gave him towards it overrides any programming that says stay out of the spotlight.

This could be a misunderstanding, because he does research things a couple times himself, and he seems to be good friends with the record keepers, except that thanks to Enma's schemes and a bit of competitiveness he has destroyed the library twice now. That's hard to smooth over with librarians.
To be more precise he's a staring out the window and falling asleep in the day type more than a reader.
