Seriously though, it'd be pretty of shitty of them to let the franchise die like that. They have a really interesting world they can build upon, they should fucking use it. You have a post apocalyptic society, while past the Mad Max stage, it's still on the brink.
Countries are fighting over dwindling resources and it's come to the point that they're drafting teenaged girls to serve in full military capacity.
The peaceful tone of the original series would serve a great contrast to a chaotic prequel depicting the war at its height. And let's not forget the all important AI JOU YUU JOU
