If you don't have a PSP and want to play the first game then I think the DS version should be good. There are some problems with it though. IIRC there were little to no voices during scenes, the graphics and audio quality were really reduced, and some bugs (I suppose they kinda were cheating if you abused them) were removed. It does have exclusive characters (Pleinair ;_;) and prinny commentary though, which are both unavailable in the PSP version. In the end it's up to you if you want.
(Though messing around with different emulators seems troublesome in my opinion)
