That's kind of the point. He's the protagonist of every other Isekai, except he's not supernaturally good at both fighting and getting laid. He IS the loser--the kind of person who becomes the asshole, which is what all those self-insert power fantasy isekai protags are.
That's part of what makes him appealing, actually. Other isekai protags are assholes who get everything on a silver platter, because most isekai are written to appeal to the kind of loser-asshole who hasn't realized yet what he's become. Kazuma, meanwhile, is an asshole who suffers for being an asshole--which makes him feel more like a real person.
And then we get to see him get his ass kicked for it. And sometimes, he's not as much of an asshole as usual, so that's nice.
