When I saw Rei in 3.33 I first thought "oh, this is like the emotionless doll people criticise Rei for being" and seeing that just confirmed how good the original Rei was. It was only later I saw people were upset about it. To me it's just Anno being Anno. He did the same thing in EoE by disfiguring Rei and he failed to make me mad then either.
I liked the film's aesthetics and sound but it felt hollow, which I guess is the point. It's more offensive that 4.0 still hasn't come out tbqh.
