The issue is that she never would have cut it herself, it was a one-sided decision from Bannam and they didn't even bother to create a story explaining the change that fits her character. It's also arguable that she's basically a different person in 2nd vision, but if I got into that I'd hit the character limit, so let's just leave it at that.
This is why I'll always prefer long, even if I personally find short to be a tiny bit cuter.
