The first alien propagated herself as humans, but her children were sad because they were divided from each other, so to return to an undivided state they used bits of the aliens to try starting an "Impact" which is like a mix of a holocaust and sex orgy. This guy put his wife in the alien but the alien absorbed her. In trying to get his wife out Rei came out instead and they gave up, because Rei was best girl. Rei spends the entire series being best girl, then she ends the world. The guy wanted to end the world his way so he could see his wife again, but Rei ends it the way the guy's son wanted which was pretty dumb in hindsight.
Rei enjoys reading, leaving trash around her apartment, making miso soup, and fishing. Rei's favorite food is garlic pork ramen without the the pork.
Later Rei learns to teleport, regrow limbs, and travel through time. Despite having these abilities Rei barely uses them, choosing instead the cold embrace of death.
