There was that "self-sacrificing mass ritual" that the MPEs/Reis performed by impaling their cores, and the moans of pleasure that they let out. But before that. The dummy plugs that were inserted in the MPEs were labeled "Kaworu". Probably because Kaworu was a part of GNR. Therefore this "Rei and Kaworu are to sides of the same coin" would make sense. As an explanation as to why Rei's faces appeared on the MPEs and not Kaworu's. Oh and the fact that Kaworu is the only Angel with a human form.
