>If you told me that America was run by vampires that feed off of suffering, I'd believe you.I've definitely had similar thoughts recently.
>And then we all collectively scratch our heads as to why our suicide rate has been on a steady climb since 2006.I like to remind people for what it's worth that there isn't a one-to-one relationship between suffering and suicide. Suicide as a behavior is caused by factors other than suffering (including portrayals of the behavior in the media) and can become more prevalent without an increase in underlying rates of suffering. Maybe I'm "ruining the vibe," but in matters of both life and death, I support a comprehensive approach. Self-termination is only one approach to suffering, and the relationship between the two is tenuous indeed. By the way, it was really only when I gave up on the idea of suicide as "the thing to do" that I started to embrace ideas of improvement. I couldn't dismiss problems by saying that they wouldn't matter after I died. Anyway, I hope you understand that I'm not saying these things to invalidate your post. It's an addition more than a rebuttal, in my view.
