They might be just waiting for the LNs to progress a bit more or reach some sort of conclusion but the author has been busy writing stuff for the second PSP game recently.
As for LNs themselves, what's available in english are mostly just summaries (so going through them shouldn't take too much time). They're still interesting read if you like the show and want to gain little bit more insight into the characters. Currently the anime goes up to LN volume 5 (out of 9 total) so there's definitely a lot of material for a new season there, too.
