Not to burst this thread's bubble, and I do sometimes think LRS is sweet, but I love Rei a whole hell of a lot more than I think Shinji is a valuable person. Really, I hate his personality and timidity in the face of responsibility; I still don't fully understand why Rei is attached to him, beyond Oedipal theory which I haven't read much into in reality. Of course I see some self-criticism in him from my and Anno's perspectives, but that doesn't explain why Rei is endeared to him. Did he even love her back? I don't actually know. Please discuss. I am interested in other anons' thoughts. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong in my skepticism.
