Because, honestly, i think that "child soldier, extremely aggressive, happy in a bloody battlefield, deeply depressed and arrogant Asuka from NGE" without a life changing experience like instrumentality would end up much worse than Misato and Ritsuko. Probably either kill herself for good or end up as a serial killer, or something.
