When Shinji gets proved by Leliel he basically gave up on life and would have died if not for Yui/Eva going berserk and saving him.
When Arael does the same to Asuka she too would have died if not for Rei, but instead just stops being a functioning human being, tries to die anyway.
When Armisael tries to do the same thing to Rei, she just acknowledges the pain she feels and decides to sacrifice herself not because of any suicidal or self pitying reason but because the Angel is still a threat and it's the only way to neutralize it... and then comes back to life and proceeds to fuck up Gendo & Seele's plans.
