She seemed to grow an affinity twoards experiencing new things as time went on so I think that would have effected her decision. She also said she dreaded "returning to nothingness" as things went on, so there's that. Also im pretty sure her coming apart in EoE was her rejection of instrumentality.

I tried to take inspiration from it in the greentext since I thought it did the best with Rei's character. I debated on making the death of Lilith into a second impact style cataclysm but I thought a manga like ending was better rounded.
