The base experiment wasn't too safe to begin with, Daghlian had already been killed earlier and he followed procedure, Slotin being a showboat would just highlight that they needed to come up with a better approach altogether. If Daghlian got himself killed following the existing protocols, and Slotin did because of how easily he could violate them, the conclusion can be made that you shouldn't even be able to put yourself in those positions, and new standards and rules need to be drafted, because you can't afford good scientists dying all the time.
