Without her own "warmth", he likely wouldn't have recovered. She was without Rei's soul, yet she shared Rei's name, became part of the final manifestation of Rei, and saved Shinji just as Rei always does. Rei is Rei. I would hope every Rei lover can find it in themselves to see the value in this Rei as well.
