I'm doing this for 8 years now, sometimes a few hours every day, sometimes I dont touch the DAW for weeks. My skills didn't improve that much, but still enough that I feel embarrassed for my early works. I don't plan to be popular with it, I just make the music I'd like to listen to (on an amateur level ofc) and release it in the hopes that someone might like it as well. I once asked a popular YT-channel to post one of my tracks, he did, I got positive and negative feedback, it felt good.
Don't expect to much from your work and you'll be fine.
