The author of the manga wasn't the nicest person to her. he stated he did not care for Asuka, and instead focused on Rei much more. In fact, Asuka was completely removed form the story when she is given a nervous breakdown by the author that never happened in the Anime.
Shinji is a dick to her, for the most part, which is probably why I absolutely hate him. At the same time though, this make her somehow more human tome than anime Asuka.
The scans are from the doujinshi "Shinji Ikari Raising Project". It is based on a non-apocalyptic Evangelion in which the main point of the story is romantic comedy. Something like ToraDora, but with much more corny fanservice moments (such as Shinji falling right in between a girl's skirt every 10 pages, getting beat up, and it happening again. Never mind it's like Dokuro-chan)
I absolutely adore the Asuka in this doujin, because she is most like the Asuka I developed as headcanon. She's a complete sweetheart, she's just the right amount of tsundere, unlike many modern "tsunderes". She looks absolutelly amazing and the art style is true to the original. She also shows up naked if you read enough of the doujin. (Rei, Misato, Asuka's mother alsoa re seen naked). Asuka does not come from a dysfunctional past, her mother is alive and in a great relationship with her. The author still prefers Rei, but that's okay, because I just tend to ignore her.
Shinji is more relatable because he isn't a complete faggot, although I like him mostly because Asuka can be the sweet girl she is around him.
In other words, just read it. It's an amazing doujinshi.
