At this point it's perhaps best to regard all of EVA as a theatre play or practical joke.
Rei is an actor who plays a role, and the whole world is a stage. It's the only thing that makes true sense any more, and you can even throw in Death & Rebirth in the mix.
There's a segment there which takes place 18 months before everything. in 3.0, there are obvious spotlights and no focus on realism, but everything is like a stage or set, just backdrops. Then add in the jo-ha-kyu bullshit.
Fuck the scriptwriters though, they should up Rei's role so much more! There is absolutely no reason that Rei should be made into a lesser character and being in this new remake. It just sucks.
