But people let their hatred of Il Teatrino blind themselves and let it define their relationship with the series; it's never "season one was so great with it's muted color scheme and fucking dead look in the eyes all the girls had" but instead always "Il Teatrino sucks with it's (insert long list of shit wrong with it)"

It's not like Il Teatrino even ruined the series! The manga still continued with awesome shit like a Venetian landmark getting blown up, a closer look at the past of Jean and Jose, and massive shootout at a nuclear power plant. Everything was still awesome and yet people chose to focus on how shitty Il Teatrino is when all that's really wrong is it's fuck awful production quality. It's the same bloody storyline as the manga, heck even the original author had more input in the story of Il Teatrino with him writing the screenplays.
Seriously, I think people should just fucking get over it. Il Teatrino happened, it sucked, there are alternatives to getting your Gunslinger Girl fix is if low ball crack cut with broken glass don't do it for you.
