I think in the issue of Monster Musume, though, (Think along the lines of the way Rachnera was treated) it's more a form of species-ism than anything to do with Race. Humans have been the dominant species on this planet for so long, I don't think anything not-human would have an easy time integrating into society, at least not immediately. This extends to AI's and the Uncanny Valley as well.
Humans are just not comfortable, in general, with change and uncertainty. This is why Explorers and others that challenge the Status Quo tend to be seen as on the fringe of humanity, or otherwise not-quite-regular. Sure we'd have a sizable portion of the population that would be okay with Liminals (A statistical certainty, given 6 Billion+ on the planet), but we'd still be the outliers, much like those of us who supported the LGBT cause before they gained general acceptance in the political community. I can only hope such attitudes would change, over time.
