Despite the girly sounding name, it is more of of mecha series in style because the magical girls shoot huge magic laser beams at each other. in this way it even is slightly like a shonen, with an emphasing on figting for the sake of one´s friends, heroes with a hotblooded attitude and well choreograpghed and animated fights, and ha healty does of cuteness and hartwarmiing chracter interactions
But I´m sure you´ll like even if you hate shonen (like me) because the heroes don´t need flashbacks and hearfelt speeches or obnoxiously long training arcs to power up, it goes more natuuraly and you colud even say Nanoha relies on her natural skill for most of the show, the first two seasons (MGLN and MGLN A´s) and only the third season, StrikeS, brings up some training arcs, but then again Strikers is quite different in tone from the previous two.
So if you ´d fancy mecha style magical girl action where the protagonist´s signature attack is a magic laser that can flatten a city block, Nanoha is for you.
