Perhaps Asakura was a fluke? Or maybe they were built to different specifications? I think its implied that Yuki has greater calculation ability.. so maybe something is sacrificed in doing that.
Maybe as anon said
>>2388470 Asakura is just older and more experienced. Or perhaps it comes down to something as simple as personality. Asakura is a clear sociopath, shes just extremely, extremely good at acting.
Maybe she was just driven enough to learn everything about humans before assuming her disguise. While Yuki perhaps isnt as good an actor, and didnt attempt to build her disguise so much.
Frankly considering the Data Overmind thing is basically incomprehensible, its amazing they managed to make some functional human-analogues at all.
More likely to me they didnt. A couple dozen 'test' interfaces probably bumbled around Japan for a bit, talking gibberish, getting hit by cars or just plain dying. How many times do you think they had to remake their interfaces before they got something that could even THINK in terms humans would consider vaguely normal.
Hell, maybe thats why Yuki has a conscience and Asakura seems to have none. Yuki is a more 'advanced' model. They managed something that could blend in, but was by human standards fundamentally broken. Their next attempt was Yuki, and they managed to actually give her human empathy.
Maybe the next Interface will pop up fully formed, socially competent and entirely benign in personality.
