This works because both are based on either Lilith or Adam.

This would make no sense though since the A-L-god complex completed its task, of which Rei is a part of. It died because it wanted to.
Her will to reunite with Lilith very clearly shows that she has no need for individuality.
She has no reason to return.
What is shown at the end of EoE is merely a "goodbye", complementing her "hello" in the first episode.
