Many people who like Touhou though never beat a single game or even play it. These people are known as "secondaries".
Even though their are retarded people in the community a portion of them are normal about it and wont make things as people here on the 4chan will call autistic. Lots of good fan games and amazing fan art. Never read any fanfic though.
Another thing worth mentioning is not all Touhous are lolis and there's a lot of backstory. Some of the backstorys even being dark in some cases.
