Paint.net or Photoshop you can change the hue/saturation/value so that you can add some purple hue with a low saturation to the black lines to make them similar to the lines of the outside of the head. Only Photoship allows you to add hue to straight black lines, so you may need to screen (either with brush or layer mode) a color onto it if you're using the cheaper SAI or the free
paint.net. I'm sure GIMP has some functionality like that too.
